Who can see what you type into ChatGPT
Know what to check before you share private facts.
Do not treat a chat as a secret vault. Someone who can open your account or unlocked device may read it.
The data controls you choose affect how chat data is used. Memory has its own controls. These are separate choices.
Try this
- Keep passwords, sign-in codes, and full bank details out of chats.
- On ChatGPT web or mobile, open Settings, then Data controls. Read each choice before changing it.
- Check Settings, then Personalization, for memory controls in your account.
- Review what a share link includes before you share it.
- Sign out on a shared device. Remove private files you downloaded there.
