Staying safe

Can I get a virus from using ChatGPT?

You will see why ChatGPT itself is safe and how to stay protected.

Using ChatGPT will not give your device a virus. Typing and reading in the chat is safe.

A virus is harmful software that can hurt your device. ChatGPT does not send you any software.

The small risk is in links. ChatGPT can suggest a website, but it cannot check if that site is safe.

So treat any link with care. Do not download a file just because a link tells you to.

Try this
  1. Read ChatGPT's answers right inside the chat. That part is safe.
  2. Before clicking a link it gives you, pause and look at the web address.
  3. Stick to websites you already know and trust.
  4. Never download a file unless you are sure it is needed and safe.
A message you can copy

I am new to this and want to stay safe. Please explain in simple words how I can tell if a website link is safe to click.

Paste it into ChatGPT, then change the words in brackets to fit you. It opens in a new tab, so you will not lose this page.

ChatGPT cannot harm your device. Just be careful with links, like always.
