Can ChatGPT help you understand a scam?
ChatGPT can explain warning signs. It cannot prove who sent a message or recover your money.
Yes. ChatGPT can help you put a strange request into plain words. Its answer may miss facts or be wrong. Use it to prepare questions, then check with the real person or firm.
Do not wait for an AI answer if you shared money or account access. Contact the bank, payment firm or account service through a route you know.
- Pause contact with the sender. Do not send more money, codes or files.
- If you want an explanation, describe the type of request. Leave out names, phone numbers, links, passwords and account details.
- Ask what must be checked. Do not ask for a safe-or-scam verdict based on a small excerpt.
- Check the request in the real firm's app or with a contact you already know. Keep the original message for a proper report.
- If money or data was shared, follow the FTC steps below. A draft in chat does not send a report.
Here is a made-up request: 'Move your savings to our safe account now. Tell no one.' Explain the warning signs in plain words. List what to check with my real bank. Do not claim you checked an account or filed a report.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.

You can ask for help without pasting the private message. A short, made-up example is enough to learn.
