Can I share a photo of my ID or passport with ChatGPT?
Use blank form labels to ask for help. Keep your ID photo out of ordinary chat.
Do not upload an ID or passport photo just to ask ChatGPT what a form means. It can include a face, birth date, number and codes that identify you.
Instead, type the blank field label you need help with. A label such as 'date of issue' does not require your actual document.
A service may have a separate identity check. Confirm its purpose, provider and privacy terms through the known service. A request in a chat or surprise link is not proof that it is that check.
- Choose one blank field label from the real form.
- Try the sample below. 'Date of issue' should mean when the document was issued, not when it expires.
- Check the form issuer's own instructions before entering a value.
- If a real service needs ID, use its verified process. Do not send a copy to someone who offers to handle it through a private chat.
Explain the blank form label 'date of issue' in plain words. Do not ask for an ID photo, number or date. Do not guess what my form requires.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.
Hiding the name alone does not remove all the private details from an ID photo.
