Can I paste my bank account number into ChatGPT to ask a question?

Keep your bank account number, card details, PIN and login codes out of a general AI chat. You do not need them to learn a term or draft a question.
Use made-up facts instead. For example, ask about a sample fee of $5. Do not paste a statement or screenshot that includes real account details.
For help with your actual account, use the bank's known app, site or phone number. ChatGPT cannot prove that a charge is valid or fix it through a draft alone.
- Pick the question you need to ask, such as why a fee appears.
- Use the sample below. Check that the draft asks about the $5 fee and makes no claim that it is fraud.
- Add any needed account details only in the bank's secure channel.
- If details were exposed or money may be at risk, contact the bank promptly. Ask what steps fit the information shared.
Practice only: a made-up bank statement has a $5 fee called 'monthly service fee'. Draft a short question asking what it is and how to avoid it. Do not invent an account number or promise a refund.
