What do these charges on my credit card mean?
Check an unfamiliar card charge using your records.
ChatGPT may explain a charge label, but it can guess the merchant wrong. Check receipts, orders and repeat payments in your own records first.
A pending charge is not always the final posted amount. If a charge is not yours, contact your card issuer promptly through its app or the number on your card.
Use the issuer's dispute process and check deadlines. Do not wait for AI to identify the charge. Ask what payments are still due while the issue is checked.
- Check the date, amount and whether the charge is pending or posted.
- Compare it with receipts and accounts you control.
- Contact the issuer about a wrong or unknown charge.
- Use the sample only to practice a question. Keep card numbers and codes private.
Practice only: my statement has a posted $18 charge I do not recognize. Draft one question for my card issuer about checking it. Do not guess a merchant name or tell me to ignore the bill.

Keep records of your report and the issuer's reply. A chat does not open a dispute.
