Can AI help me read my water bill?
Separate water use from fixed charges on a sample bill.
A water bill may include a fixed charge and a charge for use. Units and rates vary by supplier. ChatGPT can explain a few copied labels.
Try this sample: water use costs $18, the fixed charge is $12 and sewer service is $20. These three charges total $50.
Your bill may have more lines. Compare the bill dates, units, rates and meter reading with the real bill. A higher total alone does not prove a leak.
- Paste the sample into ChatGPT.
- Check that $18 plus $12 plus $20 is $50.
- For your bill, share only the needed labels and amounts.
- Ask the water supplier about a new fee or unexplained rise.
Sample bill: water use $18, fixed charge $12, sewer service $20. Explain the three labels and add these charges. Do not guess water use, rates or a reason for a rise.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.
