What are all these little numbers on my receipt?
You will learn how to read the parts of a store receipt.
A receipt is a record of what you bought. It can look crowded. But it is simple inside.
It lists each item and its price. Then it adds tax. Then it shows the total you paid.
Sometimes there are short codes next to items. Those are just the store's own labels.
ChatGPT can explain a confusing line if you type it in. It can also help you check the math, so the total is right.
- Find the list of items and their prices.
- Find the word "subtotal". That is before tax.
- Find "tax", then the final "total".
- If a line confuses you, type it into ChatGPT and ask.
- If the total seems wrong, take it back to the store and ask.
My receipt has a line that says [type it here]. What does that mean? And can you check if these prices add up to [total]?
Paste it into ChatGPT, then change the words in brackets to fit you. It opens in a new tab, so you will not lose this page.

Keep receipts for big items. You may need them to return something or fix a charge.
