How to use a chat that stays out of your history
Use Temporary Chat and understand what it keeps.
For a chat that stays out of your list, start a Temporary Chat.
It stays out of your history unless you choose to save it. Saving turns it into a regular chat.
Temporary does not mean no data is kept. OpenAI may keep a copy for up to 30 days for safety.
Turning off Improve the model for everyone stops new chats being used for training. It does not hide them from your history.
Try this
- Open a new chat on chatgpt.com.
- Choose Temporary near the top.
- Choose whether to use your existing personal context. Leave that off for a fresh chat.
- Leave private details out. Copy any non-private notes you need before leaving.
