Is this email about a prize a scam?
Learn what to check when a message says you won.
An unexpected prize message is a reason to stop and check. AI may spot warning signs, but it cannot confirm a real win.
A demand to pay a fee to release a prize is a scam warning. Do not send money or gift card codes to claim it.
Find the organizer through a separate source before doing anything with the message.
Try this
- Leave the message links unopened.
- Do not pay a claim fee or send private details.
- Find the organizer site yourself.
- Ask through its known contact route whether the prize exists.
- Report a false prize message through your mail app.
A message you can copy
Explain why a fee to release a prize is a warning sign. Use a made-up example.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.
Buddy says
If you ask AI about a message, remove names, codes, links, and other private details first.
