How to help your partner use AI safely
Help your partner try one useful task, with them in control.
Ask what your partner would like help with. A short note or list can be a good first task. Let them choose whether to try it now.
Show one step at a time and let them set the pace. They can type, speak or ask you to help with the controls. Ask before you take over.
Use made-up facts at first. Keep passwords, private messages and bank or health records out of the practice. Check the reply together rather than treating it as correct.
- Choose a small task together. Try the made-up club note below.
- Read the draft. It must keep Friday at 2 pm and ask people to bring a pen.
- Remove any extra place, date or promise the AI invented.
- Let your partner decide whether to try a real task. For a real note, check the facts and recipients before they send it.
Practice only. Draft a short club reminder from these facts: we meet Friday at 2 pm; bring a pen. Do not add a place or other details. Do not send the note.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.

A useful first session can end after one clear result. There is no need to rush or finish a whole lesson.
