How to delete your old chats in ChatGPT
Learn what to check before deleting a chat.
Delete removes a chat from view. You cannot get it back in ChatGPT. Save any work you need first.
Archive keeps a chat for later but hides it from the main list.
Saved memories are separate. Check them too. A delete does not erase every copy from all systems at once.

- Open the real ChatGPT site or app.
- Save text you still need.
- Choose Archive if you want to keep the chat.
- Read before you confirm Delete.
- Check memory controls on their own.
