How do I ask a trusted person to help me check this?
Ask for one clear kind of help while keeping control of your accounts.
You can ask someone you know to sit with you while you check a message. You do not have to hand over your account.
Try: 'Can you help me find the company's real contact details? I want to check this before I act.'
If money or a password was already shared, contact the payment or account provider now. Do not wait for a friend's free time.
- Choose a person you know, such as a friend, family member or library staff member.
- Explain what the message asks you to do. Hide passwords, codes, card numbers and other private details.
- Ask for a specific task, such as finding contact details from a prior real bill.
- Keep control of sign-in and payment steps. Enter your own password privately.
- Check with the real service before acting. A helper's opinion does not prove the message is real.
Draft a short request to a trusted friend for help checking an unexpected bill. Ask them to sit with me while I find the real company contact. Do not include account details or ask them to sign in for me.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.
Help can mean working beside you. It does not have to mean taking over.
