Will ChatGPT report me or share what I say?
Do not treat a chat as a secret vault or a way to summon help.
Do not assume no one else can ever see a chat. The service's data rules matter. So do your plan, settings and the tools in use.
Some ChatGPT modes can use linked tools. A shared chat link or another app can send data outside the chat. Check where it will go.
An AI chat is not the same as private care or legal advice. It is not a reliable way to call for urgent help. In immediate danger, call emergency services yourself.
- Before you share a private detail, read the account's privacy terms. Check its data controls.
- Review shared links, files and linked apps. Give only the access needed for the task.
- Use made-up facts for practice. Do not post a real secret as a test.
- Ask the provider who may access or share your chats. Use its official privacy or support route. A chatbot's promise is not proof.
Draft three short questions for a service: Who can see my chats? When may they be shared? How can I remove them? Do not add private facts or invent the answers.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.
Deleting a chat or turning off memory does not prove that every copy is gone.
