What is a spam message?

Recognize junk messages and know it is fine to ignore them.

2 min read Always free

Spam is junk mail you did not ask for. It comes by email or text, often from strangers.

Most spam is just trying to sell you something. Some can be a trick, so it is good to be careful.

You do not have to reply. It is fine to ignore it or delete it. You are not being rude.

Try this
  1. If a message is from someone you do not know, read it slowly.
  2. Do not click links in messages that feel pushy or strange.
  3. Delete it, or mark it as spam if your email has that button.
  4. Never share passwords or bank details with a stranger.
A message you can copy

I keep getting messages I did not ask for. Can you explain what spam is and how I can tell it apart from a real message?

Paste it into ChatGPT, then change the words in brackets to fit you. It opens in a new tab, so you will not lose this page.

When in doubt, do not click. Deleting a message is always safe.
