What are those "three lines" or "three dots" for?

You will know what those little buttons do and feel safe tapping them.

2 min read Always free

You may see three lines stacked up, or three little dots. These are buttons. They hide a list of extra choices.

The three lines are often called a menu. The three dots usually mean "more." Both open a hidden list when you tap them.

It is safe to tap them and look. Nothing breaks. If you do not want anything, just tap away or close it.

Try this
  1. Look for three lines or three dots on the screen.
  2. Gently tap them with your finger.
  3. A small list of choices will pop up.
  4. Pick one, or tap somewhere else to close it.

On my phone I see buttons that look like three lines or three dots. Please explain in simple words what they do and whether it is safe to tap them.

Paste it into ChatGPT, then change the words in brackets to fit you. It opens in a new tab, so you will not lose this page.

Tapping these buttons only opens a list. It will not break anything.
