How do I start a new line in ChatGPT without sending it?
Add line breaks and check the draft before sending.
On many computer chat screens, Shift+Enter adds a new line. Plain Enter may send instead.
Phone and app settings can differ. If you are unsure, write in a note first.
Try this
- For a safe check, type a harmless word such as 'Hello'.
- On a computer, try Shift+Enter and see whether it adds a line.
- On a phone, use Return only if the key is shown. Do not assume a key labeled Send adds a line.
- For a long draft, write separate lines in a private note.
- Copy and paste the draft into ChatGPT. Read it, then choose Send.

The desktop app also has send-key settings under General. Check them if your keys act differently.
