The microphone lets you talk instead of type
Speak a draft, then check it before you send.
Dictation turns speech into typed words. A voice chat is different: it lets you speak and hear replies.
The buttons can vary. Choose the microphone for dictation if your screen offers it. Your phone keyboard may also have its own microphone.
Try this
- Tap the message box.
- Choose the dictation microphone, if shown.
- Allow mic access only if you want to use it.
- Speak one short question, then stop the recording.
- Check the words, fix any errors, and choose Send.

If a spoken chat opens instead, end it. Use the keyboard mic or type your draft.
