Why does ChatGPT ask for my phone number?
Check a phone request before you enter a number.
The sign-up steps can change. Do not assume every ChatGPT account needs a phone number.
A request for a number is not proof that a page is safe. Start from the official site yourself.
Try this
- Type chatgpt.com into your browser. Choose its sign-up or sign-in option.
- Read any phone request on that route. Check what it says the number is for.
- If you did not start the request, stop.
- Enter a code only in the sign-in step you opened and checked.
- Never send a sign-in code to a person or paste it into a chat.
Buddy says
If the request seems wrong, stop and use the official site's help link.
