How to tell ChatGPT how much you already know

You will say what you already know so ChatGPT meets you where you are.

You do not have to feel talked down to. You can set the level yourself.

Tell ChatGPT what you already know. It will start from there.

Say you are new, or say you know the basics. Either is fine.

Then it skips what you know and explains what you do not. That saves time.

Try this
  1. Think about what you already understand on the topic.
  2. Tell ChatGPT your starting point.
  3. Ask it to explain from there.
  4. If it goes too fast or too slow, just say so.
A message you can copy

I am new to [your topic] but I do understand [what you already know]. Please explain the rest from there.

Paste it into ChatGPT, then change the words in brackets to fit you. It opens in a new tab, so you will not lose this page.

It is fine to say I know nothing about this. That just helps it start at the beginning.
