How to tell if a screen is really ChatGPT, not a fake
Learn how to find the official ChatGPT site and app.
A fake site can copy a name, logo, and calm tone. Those clues do not prove it is ChatGPT.
Start by typing chatgpt.com in your browser address bar. Use the app download links from that site.
Read the real web address before you sign in. A search ad or a familiar-looking link can lead somewhere else.
Try this
- Type chatgpt.com yourself.
- Check the address before you enter a password.
- For the phone app, follow the official download link.
- Check that the app publisher is OpenAI.
- If you are unsure, close the page and start again from the known site.
A message you can copy
Explain the difference between an app name and its publisher in plain words.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.

A free offer can still be fake. Price is not proof of who runs it.
