How to tell ChatGPT how long the answer should be
You will ask for a certain length so the answer fits just right.
ChatGPT does not know how much you want. So you can tell it.
Ask for a short answer, or a long one. Ask for a few sentences, or a full page.
If it gives too much, ask it to shorten. If too little, ask for more.
You are in charge of the size. Just say what feels right for you.
Try this
- Ask your question as usual.
- Add how long you want, like one short paragraph.
- Read it. Too much? Ask it to make it shorter.
- Too little? Ask it to add more.
A message you can copy
Can you answer this in just [a few short sentences]? Keep it short and simple, please. My question is: [your question].
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.

Plain words like short, medium, or one paragraph work better than guessing a word count.
