What to do if you deleted a chat by mistake
Learn what to check when a ChatGPT chat goes missing.
A missing chat may be in another account or in your archive. Check those places first.
If you truly deleted the chat, you cannot restore it in ChatGPT. Starting a new chat will not bring back the old words.
You can try to rebuild the question from your own notes. A new answer may differ.
Try this
- Check that you signed in to the right account.
- Look for archived chats in Settings.
- If you deleted it, look for a copy you saved elsewhere.
- Start a new chat with the facts you still have.
- Save a copy of work you need before deleting chats next time.
