How to close a chat without deleting it
Know what is saved before you leave a chat.
A normal chat in a signed-in account is usually saved in your chat list. Closing its tab does not delete it.
Temporary Chat and logged-out use work differently. Do not rely on them to keep a chat for later.
Text you have not sent may not be saved. Copy an important draft to your own notes before closing.
Try this
- Check that you are signed in and using a normal chat.
- Wait for any reply you want to keep.
- Copy any unsent draft you need into your own notes.
- You can close the tab. Reopen the chat list when you return.

On a shared device, sign out when finished. Closing a tab alone is not signing out.
