How to give ChatGPT background so it understands you

You will share a little background so ChatGPT gives advice that fits you.

2 min read Always free

ChatGPT does not know your life. So a little background helps a lot.

Tell it who you are and what you need. Then its answer fits you better.

You only share what you want. Skip anything private or personal.

A few short details are plenty. You do not need to write a story.

Try this
  1. Think about what ChatGPT should know to help you well.
  2. Add a sentence or two about your situation.
  3. Then ask your question.
  4. If the answer still does not fit, add one more detail.
A message you can copy

Here is some background: [a sentence about your situation]. With that in mind, can you help me with [your question]?

Paste it into ChatGPT, then change the words in brackets to fit you. It opens in a new tab, so you will not lose this page.

Never share private things like passwords or bank numbers. ChatGPT does not need those.
