What is two-factor and why does a site ask for a code?

You will understand login codes and feel calm when one shows up.

2 min read Always free

Two-factor means a site checks it is really you. It uses two steps, not one.

First you type your password. Then it sends a short code to your phone.

You type that code to finish signing in. This keeps strangers out of your account.

Getting a code is a good thing. It means the site is keeping you safe.

Try this
  1. Sign in with your email and password as usual.
  2. Wait for a code by text or email.
  3. Type the code into the box on the site.
  4. You are in. The code keeps your account safe.

Never share a login code with anyone, even someone who calls and asks.
