How to summarize a long article
Summarize text while keeping its key facts and limits.
Use text you own or are allowed to share. ChatGPT can shorten it, but can omit a condition or add a fact. Keep the original beside the reply.
Sample: 'The library opens at 10 am on Saturday. The cafe is closed that day.' A summary must keep both the opening time and the cafe closure.
Check names, numbers, dates and exceptions against the source. If the summary refers to text you did not supply, remove or verify that part.
- Paste the short sample below.
- Check both facts survive.
- Use a permitted passage for your own task.
- Compare the summary with the source before relying on or sharing it.
Summarize this sample in one short sentence: 'The library opens at 10 am on Saturday. The cafe is closed that day.' Keep both facts. Do not add opening hours for other days.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.
A summary helps you find the main points. It does not prove the original claims are true.
