How can I make sense of a confusing letter from my doctor?
Keep the whole letter and ask the sender to explain it.
Start by checking whether the letter asks you to act or reply by a date. Keep those details with the original.
Ask the clinic to explain the unclear part or provide it in a format you can use. Reading words out loud is different from checking their medical meaning.
ChatGPT can help draft your request. You do not need to upload the letter. Even without a name, health details may still identify you.
- Keep the original letter in a private place.
- Mark any unclear words, actions, or deadlines.
- Contact the sender through its known phone number or portal.
- Ask for plain words, written steps, or help reading.
- Keep the answer with the letter and check what happens next.
Write a short request to my clinic. Ask them to explain part of a letter, what I need to do, and by when. Do not invent facts from the letter.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.
Do not replace the original with an unchecked AI summary. Ask the sender if two instructions seem to conflict.
