How to plan for someone to help at your doctor visit
Choose what support you want and agree on it before the visit.
You can bring someone you trust if you want support. Check the clinic's rules first. You can also choose to go alone.
Agree on their role. They might take notes, remind you of questions or help recall the next steps. You can speak for yourself.
You decide what you want them to hear. Ask for time alone with the clinician if you want it. For language help, ask the clinic about an interpreter.
- Choose whether you want a helper.
- Ask the clinic about access and any limits.
- Tell your helper what help you want.
- Agree on when you would like privacy.
- Review the written next steps together if you wish.
Write a short plan for a friend helping at a health visit. Include taking notes, reminding me of questions and respecting private time. Leave room for me to choose the tasks.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.

A plan is a request. Agree on it with your helper and the clinic; do not assume support has been arranged.
