How do I get ready for a phone or video doctor visit?
Check the visit details, your device and a backup way to connect.
A phone or video visit lets you speak with a care team from a place they allow. Some health problems still need an in-person visit.
Use the clinic's own joining steps. Check the time, cost and what to have ready. Ask early for help with language, hearing, sight or the device.
Keep your medicine list and questions nearby. ChatGPT can make a blank checklist. It cannot test your device or join the visit for you.
- Check how to join and whether you need an app or forms.
- Choose a quiet, private place where you can speak safely.
- For video, test sound and camera using the clinic's steps.
- Keep the device charged and the clinic's phone number close.
- Ask what to do if the call drops or video will not start.
- Join at the time the clinic asks. Tell them if you cannot connect.
Make a short checklist for a video health visit. Include joining steps, access needs, a private place, a device test, my own notes and a backup phone number. Leave personal details blank.
Paste the message into ChatGPT, then fill in any blanks before you send it. ChatGPT opens in a new tab. Opening it does not send the message.

Making a checklist is not the same as testing the call. Use the clinic's test or ask their staff for help.
