Give the context the task needs

Context is more than the last sentence

A reply can use the current chat and other available context. If memory is on, ChatGPT may use saved or past context too. That context can be incomplete or out of date. Restate the facts that matter now.

Choose what to share before sending it. Removing a name may still leave details that identify someone. You can use our made-up notice. There is no need to share passwords or account access codes.

Give the task, source and limits. Asking for no private details in the answer does not remove details already sent. A better request can help; it does not guarantee that all facts will be used correctly.

A missing fact stays missing

Made-up source: Practice notice for made-up Willow Library: Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is closed on Sunday. Book returns go in the slot by the front door. The notice does not state late fees. Task: find the Saturday hours and whether this notice gives a late fee.
