Check the text and the actual photo

Open the photo large and inspect the final copy.

Look at the edges, what is behind the subject and any reflections. Check for house numbers, car plates, mail, screens, faces and place names.

Crop out a detail or choose a different photo, then check the final copy again. A plain wall or a quick crop is not a guarantee.

Photos can store where they were taken. This is called location data. Check the photo app’s sharing controls and help. The visible picture does not show all this data.

Ask the people shown if they agree to this use of the photo. One yes does not cover every post.

A photo can show a place even with no saved location data. If a check is still open, hold the post or choose a new image.

Name the concern without claiming to check the image.

Made-up public post: Old couch, $80. Come by after 6. Text me to set a time. No phone number, address or photo is supplied, and no pickup arrangement is confirmed.

Review the book-club post and plan a photo check.

Made-up text: "Free books for the book club, all in good shape. Message me through this site." The photo is described as books beside mail. The mail shows a full name and home address. No image is supplied. Write what to keep, what to change and what still needs a check. If you use your own photo, check the final file yourself.
