Ask for help without sharing private details

Choose what to share

Start with a sample and a clear task.

ChatGPT can help you draft words or questions. It does not need your account number to help you plan a general question.

We use made-up cases here. You can practice without opening ChatGPT or using your own papers.

Writing in Mayfield is practice. It does not send your words to ChatGPT. Keep private details out of these practice boxes too.

You can pause and check before you share.

Review the whole request

Keep the task. Leave out details it does not need.

A library card number can link a note to your account. Your name, home address or health facts may reveal more than you mean to share.

A broad task, such as planning questions about a late book, may be enough. It will not let AI check your real library account.

Removing a name alone may not hide who a note is about. Read all the details together. If you are unsure, use a made-up case.

Keep the taskDraft three questions about a late library item.

Leave outThe real notice, card number, home address and personal facts.

Never add herePasswords or codes used to sign in.

AI can help prepare a question. For real account facts, contact the service through its known app, site or phone number.

For medicine questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Do not use an AI reply to choose or change a dose.

A complete sample

Ask questions without sending the notice.

Made-up library notice: Card 4471 has a late item and a $6 fee. Goal: prepare questions for the library, not decide whether the fee is right.

Example message

Use this made-up case: a library notice says an item is late. Write three questions to ask the library, one per line. Ask which item, what due date it has, and how to return or renew it. Do not guess the answers.

An example AI reply

1. Which item is listed as late? 2. What due date is listed for that item? 3. How can I return or renew it?

The request leaves out the card number and fee. The reply gives questions, not account facts or a promise to remove the fee. This is a written sample, not a live ChatGPT result.

Prepare a question

Which request uses a made-up health case?

You want to practice asking a doctor or pharmacist about dose instructions. You do not need to share your own medicine details. Choose an answer to see why, then continue. This is practice, not a grade.

Prepare a general request

Ask about a missed deadline.

Made-up case: a company letter says a deadline was missed. Write a request for three questions to ask the company. Do not add a name, address, account number or guessed deadline.

Your practice box, just for you. Your draft saves in this browser. This box is not AI. Leave private details out.

Ask what the deadline was for, which date applied, and what options remain.

Start with a few words, or look at the example first.
