Try a helper role on a small task

Step 1 of 6

Opening your saved place…

Choose a useful task

Pick something you would like help writing.

Try a short note or a simple reminder. Choose a task where you know the facts and can check the reply.

You can use your own task or the full sample here. You do not need an earlier draft or access to ChatGPT to review the sample.

Choose a task that feels useful to you.

Plan your check

Name the task, facts and form.

Describe the help you want, then the job. Add the facts it needs and the form you want.

Remove private details before putting the request in ChatGPT or this practice box. Mayfield does not send your practice text to ChatGPT.

To try it yourself, send the request and compare the reply with your facts. Without a reply, label your note: Not tried yet.

Own try: check the reply you actually received.
Sample review: check the reply supplied here.
Not tried yet: keep the request and name what you will check.

A full sample

Check a four-sentence thank-you note.

Made-up task: Thank someone for watering your plants while you were away for three days. You appreciate the help and want to offer a favor in return.

Example message

Be a warm note helper. Write four short sentences using only these details: Thank someone for watering my plants while I was away for three days. I appreciate the help. Offer to return the favor.

An example AI reply

Thank you for watering my plants. I was away for three days. I appreciate your help. Please let me know if I can return the favor.

There are four sentences. The note includes the plants, three days, thanks and the offer to help. Those details came from the task. This sample does not show that your own note was written or sent.

Try or review

Keep a note of the check you actually did.

Review the supplied thank-you note, or try a small task of your own in ChatGPT. Start with “Sample review,” “Own try,” or “Not tried yet.” Name the facts and form you checked, any problem and your next step. Leave out private details.

Your practice box, just for you. Your draft saves in this browser. This box is not AI. Leave private details out.

For the sample, count the sentences and compare the plants, three days, thanks and offer to help.

Start with a few words, or look at the example first.
