What would you like the reply to help you do?

You may know the job but not the words to ask for it. Start by naming one thing you want: a short note, a list or an explanation.

Then add the details that matter. You can practise with the full made-up sample here without opening ChatGPT.

Your first draft does not have to be polished.

Fill the useful gaps

Give the task the details it needs.

“Help me with a note” leaves the job open. Who is it for, and what should it say? Use facts you know. Do not fill a gap with a guess.

There is no fixed number of details or special order. Add enough for this task. You can ask ChatGPT to ask you about missing details, then check the reply.

ResultA short thank-you note.

FactsSomeone lent me a folding table for a book swap.

PreferenceWarm, in two sentences.

From rough to specific

The added facts come from the person asking.

Made-up rough idea: Help me with a note. Added details: Thank someone for lending a folding table for a book swap. Use two warm sentences.

Example message

Write a warm thank-you note in two sentences. Thank someone for lending me a folding table for a book swap. Use only those details.

An example AI reply

Thank you for lending me a folding table for the book swap. I really appreciate your help.

The reply has two sentences and keeps the table and book swap. The clearer request includes facts that were supplied; ChatGPT did not discover them from the rough idea.

Try a clearer request

Turn these rough notes into an ask.

Made-up notes: I need a packing list for a book swap. Take three books and a tote bag. Write a request for one item per line, with no added items.

Include the event, both items, the book count and the form.
