Copy text from AI with care

Step 1 of 6

Opening your saved place…

One useful habit

Check first. Copy next.

Copy keeps the selected text ready to paste. Paste puts that text in a note or email draft. Neither sends the message.

We will use a made-up club note. You can do this lesson here, with no need to open ChatGPT.

Buddy says

You can take your time with each line.

Before you copy

Keep the facts beside the reply.

A reply can sound right and still change a fact. Compare it with the facts for your task.

Check what was added, changed or left out. Also check who will read it. Leave out details they do not need.

The copy controls may look different in each app. If you are unsure, keep the text as a draft.

Select just the text you want, then choose Copy.
Open a draft in your notes or message app. Choose Paste where you want the text.
Read the pasted draft before you send it. Check the facts, line breaks and who it is for.

A made-up club note

Does the reply match the facts?

Facts for this sample: Garden club meets Thursday at 3 p.m. in Room B. Bring gloves.

Example message

Write a short garden club reminder. We meet Thursday at 3 p.m. in Room B. Bring gloves. Use only these facts.

An example AI reply

Garden club meets Thursday at 3 p.m. in Room B. Please bring gloves.

The day, time, room and request all match. “Please” adds a kind tone. It does not change what people need to bring. Check your own reply too; it may differ.

Try the check

Write a note that keeps the facts.

Use the made-up facts: Garden club meets Thursday at 3 p.m. in Room B. Bring gloves. Write the note you would copy. Then compare all four facts.

Your practice box, just for you. Your draft saves in this browser. This box is not AI. Leave private details out.

Keep Thursday, 3 p.m., Room B and the request to bring gloves.

Start with a few words, or look at the example first.
