Here is the good news. You can choose the shape. Just add one line that tells ChatGPT the form you want. Ask for a list, and you get a list.

Steps in order“Give the answer as steps.”
A short note to send“Give the answer as a short note.”
One safety rule stays the same. Do not put private facts in your prompt. That means no names, no addresses, no account numbers, and no health details.
And ChatGPT is not the final word on health, money, legal, account, or safety choices. For those, ask a real person you trust.
