Here is the next habit. Never use an answer right away. Give it a quick check first.

This keeps you in charge, not the computer. The whole check is just three short words.

Ask yourself each word, in this order:

Useful?Does this help me? Name one good thing it got right.

Missing?Did it leave out a fact or step I really need?

Risky?Is anything too personal, or just plain wrong?

One safety rule. Do not use ChatGPT for health, money, legal, account, or safety problems. For those, ask a real person you trust. Also, before you paste anything in, take out private details. That means names, home addresses, account numbers, and passwords.

Before you judge the answer, just read it. Read the whole thing one time, top to bottom.

Do not change a word yet. Do not use it yet. Only read.

Is the answer long? Then read it in two bites. Read the top part first, then read the rest.

Reading first helps you spot what the answer is really saying. Then the three words are easy.

Here is a thank-you note that ChatGPT wrote for me. Tell me if it is useful, if it is missing anything, and if anything is risky. Name one thing for each. The note: "Dear neighbor, thank you for the kind meal you brought over. We are very grateful."

What the AI sends back

Useful: yes, it sounds warm and grateful. Missing: it never names the actual meal, like the soup you got. Risky: no, this is a safe and friendly note.

See the difference? The first try, "is this answer okay?", is too vague. The second one asks all three words at once. Now you know the note is useful, it is missing the meal name, and it is safe to send.
