Start with a choice

Ask if they want help and what they want to try.

A first try can be a short note or a simple list. Ask what the person wants to do. They may want to watch, try it, ask a question or stop.

Let them choose how to take part. Typing is one way. They may use dictation or another tool they already know. They may ask you to enter words they choose.

You can use the written samples here without opening ChatGPT or finding a partner. Mayfield’s practice box saves your writing when its save status confirms it. It does not send your words to AI.

Keep the person in charge

Offer help without taking over.

Ask before touching their device or changing a setting. A short demo or help with the keys can be useful when they choose it. You do not have to insist they type every word.

Agree on one task and one next move. Let them read or hear the words before sending. Give time to think, and check whether your pace works for them.

Use their own ChatGPT account if they sign in. Do not lend your login or ask for their password or sign-in code. Let them handle those private steps.

You can still help by reading a sample together. A person who uses support or access tools can keep control of the task.

The two lines respect the preferred input and the choice to wait. They do not claim the friend has tried it, feels safe or has sent a note.
