Check before relying on it

A confident reply can still be wrong.

Ask what the person will do with the answer. Then compare the facts that action depends on with a source that can support them.

There can be several important errors. Do not make the person discard four concerns just to keep one. You can work through the checks one at a time.

A helper’s calm voice is not proof either. Explain what you know, what you checked and what remains open.

Use a source that fits

Compare the answer with the actual facts.

For a notice, use the current notice from the group that runs the event. Compare the full date, time window, place, price and any limits that matter.

If sources differ or the needed fact is absent, contact the group or leave the action on hold. A general website or someone’s guess may not settle that exact question.

For health, legal, financial or safety decisions, use the right qualified help or official source. A trusted friend is not automatically an expert in every subject.
