Make the explanation useful

Choose the form for the task in front of you.

Numbered steps can show an order. A worked example shows how to get a result. A comparison can link a new idea to something familiar.

A question gives you a chance to try. You can use more than one form and change forms when the task changes.

A confusing idea may be wrong or incomplete, not just badly shaped. Check the meaning as well as the form.

Match the help to the gap

Ask to see the work, then try a new case.

If you cannot see how an answer was reached, ask for a worked example. It should show the source facts and each needed step.

Then ask for a similar question with new facts. Keep the answer hidden until you have had a try or ask to see it.

If you use a comparison, ask where it stops fitting. A memory aid can leave out a key rule. It should not replace a checked explanation.

A short format is a preference, not a reason to leave out a needed condition. Give the idea enough room.

See the missing work

Break a time span into parts.

Made-up timetable exercise: find the time from 9:10 to 9:45 a.m. on the same day. Show a stop at 9:30. Then ask a fresh question from 10:20 to 11 a.m. without its answer.

Example message

Show the minutes from 9:10 to 9:45 a.m. on the same day as a worked example. Split it at 9:30 and add the parts. Use one line per part and one for the total. Then ask about 10:20 to 11 a.m. and wait for my attempt.

An example AI reply

9:10 to 9:30: 20 minutes. 9:30 to 9:45: 15 minutes. Total: 20 + 15 = 35 minutes. Your turn: how many minutes pass from 10:20 to 11 a.m. on the same day?

The parts join with no gap or overlap. They add to 35 minutes. Try the new question before checking: 10:20 to 11 a.m. is 40 minutes. This is a time exercise, not a checked real service timetable.

A comparison with limits

What if a neat comparison gives the wrong rule?

A sample club lends one book for seven days. A comparison calls it an endless shelf and implies you can keep the book as long as you like. Choose an answer to see why, then continue. This is practice, not a grade.
