Choose a form that helps you.

Some people prefer short lines. Others like a full paragraph or repeated text. Choose what helps you follow the meaning.

A line break shapes the text. It does not guarantee an audio pause or make a player wait for you to speak.

One useful skill

Keep each idea clear.

Ask for short sentences with one idea or closely linked fact per line. Keep all facts the task needs, even if that means an extra line.

A player may read every line in one pass. Use its actual pause control. Typing wait for me is not a substitute for checking how that player works.

Writing the word pause in brackets may cause it to be read as a word. It is not a reliable way to set a playback delay.

On Mayfield, Continue repeats the current sentence. Starting after Stop reads the step from the beginning. A typed prompt does not change this player’s pace.

You can read the same text or use your own access tools. Listening is a choice, not a test of your ability.

A worked example

A short plan with all its facts.

Made-up practice note: On Saturday, pack 2 pencils, 1 notebook and a blue folder. Put the folder on top. Meet at the garden gate at 9:20 a.m. Do not bring glue. If it rains, use the hall door.

Turn the full practice note into short lines. Keep every fact, including no glue and the rain rule. Add nothing.
